Are you craving authentic Chinese food in the heart of the French Quarter? Look no further than Dian Xin, a hidden gem nestled in the bustling streets of New Orleans. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at this restaurant’s history, menu, and why it’s a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique dining experience.

History and Concept

Dian Xin was founded in 2018 by husband and wife duo, Wei and Sherry. Both born and raised in China, they noticed a gap in the New Orleans food scene for authentic Chinese cuisine. They opened Dian Xin to bring a taste of their hometown to the heart of French Quarter.

The restaurant’s name “Dian Xin” translates to “dim sum” in English, a nod to the restaurant’s focus on traditional Chinese small plates. The decor is minimalistic with clean lines and wooden accents, creating a modern and inviting atmosphere.

Menu Highlights

One of the standout features of Dian Xin is its extensive dim sum menu, which features both traditional and innovative dishes. The xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, are a fan favorite, with thin, delicate skins filled with savory broth and meat.

Another must-try dish is the shrimp and chive dumplings, which are pan-fried to perfection and bursting with flavor. For those looking for something a little heartier, the beef noodle soup is a comforting bowl of broth, tender beef, and chewy noodles.

But don’t stop at the dim sum menu! Dian Xin also offers a range of entrees, including General Tso’s chicken, kung pao shrimp, and crispy eggplant. Vegetarian options are available as well, such as the mapo tofu, a spicy and savory tofu dish.

Dining Experience

At Dian Xin, dining is more than just a meal – it’s an experience. The restaurant’s communal seating arrangement encourages conversation and connection with fellow diners. And if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the chefs in action through the open kitchen.

The staff is friendly and attentive, always happy to provide recommendations or answer any questions. And if you’re looking for a drink to accompany your meal, Dian Xin has an extensive tea menu featuring both hot and cold options.

Unbelievable, great food wish this was close to my house would eat here all the time. I’ll share pictures. I had mixed vegetables with no mushrooms and cucumber salad. The friend I went with had their garlic shrimp, unbelievably good. Only complaint, not big enough to handle the crowd that’s there all the time.

I've had Chinese food in quite a few locales and this food definitely stacks up. Chicken and broccoli & garlic chicken were very well seasoned. Xiao long dim sum was scrumptious. Only knock is that the basil chicken needs to be served with a sauce. FYI be gentle with the soy sauce, it is on the salty side.

Just what I needed to break up all the Cajun food. The soup dumplings and the salt and pepper squid were my favorites. Washing it all down with a glass of plum wine was the perfect end of this delectable dinner.
