I only paid a visit to Sam Wo because of it's history. I think the restaurant has pretty good Chinese food, nothing spectacular but good. The King Pao is comparable to what you'd get at a decent Chinese restaurant. Sam Wo is definitely worth a try.

So no trip to SF is complete without a trip to Sam Wo. This hole in the wall Chinese spot in Chinatown has been here forever and I know why. I’ve been here over a dozen times and this place never disappoints. You can eat in the restaurant, but I always get my order to go. It’s by far the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in the States. I always get the bbq pork fried rice, the bbq pork roll (this roll is amazing and the hot spicy mustard is a must.) and this time I got the three shredded meats with stir fried noodles. Yes, it was all for me!

Solid Chinese takeout place that happens to be one of the oldest restaurants in all of California. Ordered house chow mein and mapo tofu with pork after the lunch rush on a weekday, there was no wait and food promptly came out within 5 minutes. Flavor hits all the right spots, no fancy gimmicks just a good ol' takeout that you can binge on. Oh and did I mention HUGE portions? Had to separate the food into three meals. Recommended, looking forward to trying other items soon.

Awesome!! Tasty food, big portions, good prices (most mains under $15), amazing staff (lady who served us was fab!!). Place isn’t the biggest, so you might have to wait for your table. Well recommended though 🙂 (kung pao shrimp was the business!!)

Really solid food. Was a big fan of the BBQ Pork Noodle Roll. I've always had it hot with a sweet sauce but this place has a unique version of the roll that was cold, and served with spicy mustard. I have a soft spot for places with actually good spicy mustard, and this place has definitely been added to my list. Their congee was also really flavorful. Just some solid good classic cantonese food (plus the unique roll), not expensive, and our server was also very nice!
